Power systems research

Andrew Shin

I study how medium-voltage DC distribution systems can be planned and operated reliably as power networks absorb more renewable energy and electric vehicles.

Research

Current focus

MVDC distribution systems

Planning distribution networks around medium-voltage DC architecture and understanding the trade-offs in reliability, protection, and conversion equipment.

Techno-economic evaluation

Comparing investment and operating scenarios so engineering decisions remain grounded in lifetime system value.

Power-system computation

Building transparent analysis workflows for power flow, generation modelling, and optimisation-based planning.

Active MVDC research materials are maintained in a private, version-controlled research workspace.
